GET WRIGHT TALKS

Get Wright Talks is an open discussion I lead about different types of injustice in our country. The goal with each discussion is to educate and inspire everyone attending to take real actions steps in their personal lives to end discrimination in every way shape and form. Each discussion will feature a black owned non-profit or business that we raise money for to uplift the black voice. #BlackLivesMatter

Cause: Black Girls Code / The Royale
Raised: $1060 for BGC/$670 for The Royale

The Royale is a bar in San Francisco that was hit hard by the pandemic. Despite their hardships, Will, the founder, and good friend of mine offered to create drink kits that we could have during this Get Wright Talk in support of Black Girls Code. 15% of all drink proceeds were donated to Black Girls Code ($100) and Joyelle Baker, Partnerships Manager, joined on behalf of BGC to elaborate on the work they do. Check the full discussion below

Discussion Topics:

  • Black Girls Code

  • Imposter Syndrome

  • Job opportunities in America for Black women

  • The struggles of a small business in covid-19

  • Ways to adjust to the pandemic for success

Cause: Larkin Street Youth

Raised: $2795

Brittney, the lead Development Coordinator, joined us to break down everything about Larkin Street Youth Services, what they do, why they do it, and why it’s important. We had a lot of great questions asked and inspired a lot of people to get involved in their community to help end youth homelessness!

Shauna Harrison later helped us tackle topics that surround the current climate in our country and fitness; because both go hand in hand! Our overall goal was to have everyone leave better than they arrived and motivated to do their part in this movement and we did that!

Cause: Black Girls Swim
Raised: $3800

Ebony, the founder of Black Kids Swim, to go along with Noah and Skylar of the Goree Project were my special guests for this Get Wright Talk. They educated us on the past and present history of public and competitive swimming in our country so we can start looking at black people as ELITE in the water. The last half focused on what some of us want to see change in the fitness industry and HOW we can make that happen. Check the discussion topics below or the entire video at the bottom!

Our first talk had 50+ people attend to become more aware of the current racial climate in our country. This talk was open for the most part. I wanted to give everyone a chance to speak on how they feel. We raised money for the Compton Cowboys to help them continue their mission of uplifting their community through horseback riding.
